TROJAN WARS & SPANISH KINGS
Check out my BookTuve reviews of the historical fiction books I read this week! #books #bookreview #booktube
THE CATHOLIC KINGS
The trilogy about the Catholic Kings is about Isabel’s ascension to the throne in the 1400’s. Queen Isabel of Spain is renowned for several things, the most important which are the sponsoring of Cristopher Columbus’s voyage to the new world, the conquest of the moors, and also, regrettably, the Spanish Inquisition.
THE SILENCE OF THE GIRLS by Pat Barker
This book, The Silence of the Girls, is powerful as well but it’s almost too blunt in its realness. But that would also be unfair to say—that it’s too blunt—because nothing happened in this book that wouldn’t have happened in real life, and so if this book is too blunt, then real life itself is too blunt as well. THE CHILDREN OF ODIN
I read this book first about five years ago and fell absolutely in love with it. I have always been a big fan of mythology, and delved deep into Norse mythology specifically, in my early twenties. That's when I became fascinated with the Vikings and their way of life. This was one of the books … Continue reading THE CHILDREN OF ODIN
GODS OF JADE AND SHADOW
YA Fantasy This book, which is inspired by the Popol Vuh, was written by Silvia Moreno-Garcia, the same writer who penned Mexican Gothic (see my review here) which I loved. The story starts out very strong. I get sucked into the main character's, Casiopeia's, viewpoint immediately. I loved this character. She felt like a sort … Continue reading GODS OF JADE AND SHADOW
THE WITCHES OF VEGAS
YA Urban Fantasy Many thanks to NetGalley, BookBuzz and The Wild Rose Press, Inc. for providing me with an e-book in exchange for my honest review. The Witches of Vegas is a YA urban fantasy book, but I think it would be better classified as Adult horror. There are some torture scenes which are especially … Continue reading THE WITCHES OF VEGAS
THE BEAUTIFUL
YA Dark Fantasy When I picked up this book, I had no idea it was going to be a vampire book. If I had known that beforehand, I probably wouldn't have read it. I was obsessed with vampires for a bit but am pretty much fed up with them by now. It was good that … Continue reading THE BEAUTIFUL
